Plant Description
This vigorous, deciduous vine can grow to 15 feet with scarlet red, tubular blooms followed by bright red berries. It prefers average soil and full sun for best flowering. Once established, it is very drought- and heat-tolerant, and prefers average soil with good drainage. Mature specimens sport an orange-brown, attractive bark that exfoliates. This Eastern PA native vine is the perfect alternative to its dangerously invasive cousin Lonicera japonica. It is a source of nectar for hummingbirds, butterflies and bees.
