Polemonium reptans, Jacob's ladder
Sold in a strip of 4 deep plugs for $37.50
These deep plugs are typically the preferred size for plants that are shallow-rooted. The additional width of these plugs allows for horizontal growth of the roots, which benefits many species of ferns and sedges.
Each individual plug measures 2 ¼” x 2 ¼” across by 4” deep.
These plugs are landscape-ready, but also offer a head start should you be interested in potting them up.
Plant Description
Jacob's ladder is named for the opposite pairs of leaflets that form ladder-like leaves, rising up to a cluster of purple flowers a top the plant in mid to late spring. Growing at a height of 1 - 1.5 feet and the same width, these pretty plants will self-seed and spread by rhizomes, so slowly your garden will have a carpet of green and purple. Jacob's ladder grow best in woodland gardens in part shade, in moist, well drained soils and may go dormant in periods of drought. They tolerate more sun, if their roots stay wet. They provide food for bumblebees and other native bees.
