Plant Description
Rudbeckia fulgida 'Goldsturm' was the Perennial Plant Association’s Perennial Plant of the Year in 1999 and continues to be a very popular perennial many years later. Orange coneflowers (or black-eyed susans) are found in meadows, pastures, and open woods. They are not particular about soil, but prefer a sunny location with medium moisture. ‘Goldstrum’ is an upright, clump-forming perennial which grows 2 - 3 feet tall. Large, daisy-like flowers with deep yellow rays and dark brownish-black center disks bloom from mid-summer to fall. It has a long bloom period that can be extended by dead-heading spent flowers or left alone to feed the birds.
