Plant description
Zizia aurea, commonly known as golden Alexander, is a perennial plant native to eastern and central North America that typically grows 18 to 30 inches tall. It thrives in moist, well-drained soils, preferring full sun to partial shade, and blooms in early to mid-spring with clusters of bright yellow flowers. This plant supports a variety of wildlife, especially pollinators such as bees and butterflies, which are attracted to its nectar, and serves as a host for certain butterfly larvae, including the black swallowtail butterfly. Golden Alexander is also beneficial for birds and small mammals, providing both food and habitat.
