Plant description
Purple lovegrass is a sun-loving perennial grass that reaches 1 – 2 feet in an informal, loose clump. In summer, the blooms are reddish-purple spikelets that rise above the foliage and eventually fade to bronze by October. A genuinely nice plant for hot, dry areas, it will tolerate more infertile, poor soils. The plant will gently spread by self-seeding and stem rooting along the ground at the nodes. It is attractive to birds for the seeds and is native to Central and Eastern PA.
