Package Description

Fall color is important to gardeners as it helps to extend the beauty of our gardens, it is also important to wildlife and pollinators as fall flowers provide an important food source for pollinators. With complimentary colors of purple and yellow, asters and goldenrods are a natural pairing. You can see examples of this power couple in the local landscape come fall and both are important to wildlife at that time. Blue wood aster supports bees (both long- and short-tongued, like bumblebees and sweat bees), wasps, flies, butterflies (such as monarchs and the Pearl Crescent), and moths. In addition, aster seeds are welcomed food for bids come late fall. Bluestem goldenrod is a significant late food source for bees, butterflies (especially Monarchs), wasps, flies, and beetles. Woodland stonecrop adds interest to the fall garden as its foliage takes on a reddish/burgundy cast. Its flowers feed bees and butterflies and the foliage feeds growing caterpillars of the buckeye butterfly and variegated fritillary. Foxglove beardtongue has beautiful fall foliage and the seed heads persist into the fall providing food for birds. The flowers bloom earlier in the season, late spring to early summer and supports many bees and butterflies as well as hummingbirds.
